Zennani (our boat) & Slough View Acres (our home)
|
Hello, World! Scot and Inez are your hosts on this website. We
are sailors who enjoy adventure but are currently stuck in the good 'ol
"rat race" and land-locked in Iowa. We had plans of escape, but
'course that was before our Slough View Acres purchase...
Zennani is the name that we've chosen for our latest sailboat. It is a
name "borrowed" from Alby Mangels (sailor / adventurer). It is an
African name meaning Inner Strength. Our Precision 23 fits well with
this name as it is equipped to handle the adventures we plan to take
her on.
We have a total of 6 vessels in our boat
inventory:
1956 14-foot Sunfish (His)
1968 14-foot Sunfish (Hers)
1995 12-foot soft-side dinghy w/ 3 HP
outboard
1995 23-foot Precision sailboat
1998 12-foot Water Tender fishing boat
2004 14-foot custom-made iceboat
What is Slough View Acres?
The property we purchased in November, 2008 overlooks Muskrat Slough in
Jones County between Morley and Olin. Our 7-acre property sits on a hill with
an amazing view in all directions of sloping crop land and distant farms. As we
brainstormed a name for our new home, "view" was a word that needed to be
included. The southern view is over Muskrat Slough, (~ 1/4 mile), so "Slough
View Acres" it became.
Slough View Acres is providing
much enjoyment to us as we
become acquainted with the area
wildlife as well as migratory birds
and water fowl. We are certainly not
living alone out here, and are
reminded of that frequently. Like the
sole rabbit that we keep seeing
through the seasons. She (we
think) sure likes the pepper plants
that I put in the garden during the
summer! But we did end up getting
a small crop of peppers despite her
hunger, implying there is enough
bounty to be shared with all
creatures living here - so far anyway!
