Lime Crop 2008-09
2/22/09: Our lime plant current has 41 limes
on it and several new blossoms. The most
that it has grown before was 3 limes a
couple of years ago. We had 2 limes last
winter. This plant is approximately 6 years
old.
3/26/09: Our lime plant current has 3 limes
on it and several new blossoms. I have
counted over 75 that actually set on the
plant but I pruned all but 3 off to facilitate
good growth for the remaining fruit.

12/29/09: Last year's lime crop (see below
entries and pics) was a bust. Even though the
plant set on over 75 countable limes, none of
them grew larger than a size perfect for
Barbie's margarita!

HOWEVER, it appears that this winter's crop of
2 (yes, 2) are doing fine and will be ready for
harvest Mid-January.

Note: the limes used on
Corona, The Snowman
were from our 2007-08 crop grown on 2nd
Street in Anamosa...

02/21/10:  We harvested our crop of 2 limes on Feb 13 and took them along to share with our friends
at
Bob & Julie Soupene's home. It was unanimous that they were VERY tasty and better than
store-bought limes. This year's crop graced both margaritas and bottles of Corona.

During the
long and grueling harvest of the 2 limes on Feb 13 (the plant DOES have thorns so it is very
dangerous work), I noticed that the plant had again bloomed and set a small bunch of 2 limes (see pic
to the right).

Today (Feb 21), I pruned the tree up a bit which had not been done for several years. I also removed
some of the topmost soil and replaced with new potting soil. A good drink of Miracle Grow, new
window location (from  Western exposure to the South, but in the same room), and she's ready to
settle in for Spring. The lime crops that we have harvested in the past have been ready in the Jan/Feb
time frame so it is interesting that the tree would be setting on limes now in Feb (harvest ready by
May). It is also quite possible that the pruning will shock the tree a bit so it may drop the Barbie-sized
limes. Stay tuned....

07/10/10 Update:  The summer crop of limes (3 in total) are almost ready for harvest. The Slough
Limes (as we like to call them) will go perfectly with a bottle of Patron - practicing  in the pics below.
The harvest of the Slough Limes involves many laborers, mostly onlookers really. Harvest (party) pics
to follow.  LOL
